Chantal Masinga, Autumn, Oil on canas, 2025
Born in 2002, Johannesburg-based artist Chantal Masinga discovered her passion for oil painting during her time at Lilian Grey Art School, where she developed a love for vibrant colour and textured surfaces. Since officially entering the art scene in 2022, Masinga has used emotive, expressive brushwork to explore themes of identity, individuality, healing, and introspection.
In 2023, she completed the Business of Being an Artist course, debuting in the group exhibition Choice Assorted, which connected her with a wider audience and her artistic community. Her momentum continued in 2024 and beyond, with participations in notable shows including The Future in Motion, the Summer Exhibition at Art School Africa, Contra Joburg, and The Arts Company Soweto (TACS), among others.
Masinga’s paintings convey deep emotional resonance, using colour as a language of its own to invite reflection and self-discovery. Her work is both a record of her personal journey and an open invitation for viewers to connect with their own inner narratives.
Autumn reflects her signature approach, capturing seasonal transition as a metaphor for personal growth and change.
