Born to a Ndebele father and Sotho mother, Sihlobo Bukhosi Moyo grew up immersed in a tapestry of traditions, languages, and visual culture. From childhood sketches made with charcoal from his grandmother’s fireplace to shaping clay while herding cattle, creativity was both a refuge and a means of understanding the world.
A largely self-taught artist, Moyo refined his skills through persistence and experimentation, later complementing his practice with formal study in Art and Design during his teaching course (2018–2022). His multidisciplinary approach spans charcoal, painting, ceramics, textiles, and pottery, reflecting a belief that art should mirror the layered, varied textures of life itself.
Moyo’s work often examines the “veils” people wear in daily life — masks of resilience, quiet struggles, and the glimmers of hope that persist beneath them. His practice has earned recognition through two PRACA Art Awards and features in Chronicles, with exhibitions including Salon Vanguard and CONTRA.Joburg showcasing his vision of art as both mirror and reminder.
Now based in South Africa, Moyo continues to weave traditional craftsmanship with contemporary storytelling, creating works that speak to shared human experience.
